- The hookworm life cycle narrated as a dark fairytale (the bookworm?):
Visually based on scherenschnitte (traditional German paper cutting technique) - manichaean world populated by sharp silhouettes. Details of the human anatomy translated into classic fairytale environments: woods, swamps, moors etc. Macabre, snake, blood, wolf, egg, heart imagery. 2D, flat but staged with multiple layers that create perspective. Stop motion effect if achievable. Limited, grim colour palette: black/purple-white/cream, red-black-white/cream, red-blue-white-black.
- A Wes Anderson approach to the slime mold life cycle.
Since slime mold is an organism found in the woods, I thought the topic might be relevant to the boy/girl-scout culture (targeted age-group) and the video could thus be in the same spirit.

- B&W spy/secret agent story of the influenza virus life cycle
Virus having to hijack the membrane in order to get in the cell
Virus uncoating itself = reveals its true colours
RNA as secret files/data that the virus-spy would insert in the commando central and make copies of
Virus sneakily reprogamming the « cell mechanic » - ribosomes
Spectacular escape and destruction of the cell
Cell dies - zoom out to show that this is happening to a thousand of other cells
lovely diverse ideas here - tonally, I think the secret/agent spy scenario would allow you to explore a different mood to some of your other work - likewise the 'hookworm' idea. I suspect you could do the Wes Anderson-style slime mold scenario with your eyes closed!
ReplyDeleteIn terms of the spy/secret agent thing, a bunch of visual reference:
