Though the context of the chosen piece of work was the Franco-Prussian war, it could also be adapted to other conflicts and situations, such as modern-day child soldiers, the Indochina/Viêtnam war, WWI, etc.
Not sure what the practicalities of this would be, but I can imagine how, while you set your story in the original time frame, at the end, once we realise the soldier is a young casualty of war, and the camera tracks slowly backwards, perhaps the environment around him could 'glitch' into different tableaus - so the body remains in exactly the same position and unchanged, while we see the terrain become that of the ww1 trenches, then the beach at Normandy, then the jungles of Saigon, then the deserts of the Gulf... or, something like this could likewise be achieved through a sort of cycling through pertinent soundscapes - so nothing visually changes at all, but as we track away from the sleeping man, we 'hear-see' the idea of the different conflicts?
Ooh those ideas sound really good! I can even see it happen using projection mapping of 'footage' onto the scene, like a canvas being rewritten over - and yes, soundscapes hold a great deal of potential as well. Thanks a lot for suggesting them, I was starting to feel a bit clueless about how to set it all up!
