Character Project: Intro

I initially thought "God/Deity ethics" simply meant playing a game on larger scale (as opposed to an individual character's POV) and having to build, manage and control an AI population but, according to the following article, it represents a very distinct genre of gameplay: "God games are a subgenre of artificial life game, where players use supernatural powers to indirectly influence a population of simulated worshipers. The genre is separate from strategy video games, because players are unable to tell specific units what to do. The genre is also separate from construction and management simulations, because gameplay revolves around growing and utilizing their supernatural powers to indirectly influence their worshipers, such as by placing a target marker or goal for the worshipers to conquer, or affect those of their opponents, such as by creating natural disasters. God games are typically single-player games played against a computerized opponent, but some involve competition between rival players." (source: Wikipedia)

  1. really looking forward to seeing this project develop, Julien - and I guess 'sport' can be pretty elastic conceptually too - and bizarre too!

I suppose, in light of films such as The Hunger Games etc. the idea of the 'god' being cruel and using participants as mere ants or cannon fodder might be fun to - sort of Caligula meets Gladiator meets The Running Man meets Deathrace 2000!
