I understand why you feel fuzzy, as I must admit I’m still in the process of working everything out. For the external environment, I wasn’t actually thinking about starting in the woods. As the project makes us focus on microscopic phenomena, I intended to reduce the ‘outside’ to the bare minimum, just enough to differentiate the sky from the ground or something along those lines. And considering the human body is where the worms spend most of their time, it made sense to me to turn the organs into small sceneries instead.

I actually had the Tale of Three Brothers in the back of mind when writing down the concept because it effectively blends silhouette animation and 3D in my opinion (some good transition ideas too). I would love to be able to break from the flat perspective but it seems quite difficult since human anatomy is often schematized into 2D sections. Perhaps it could work when the hookworms are entering vessels (a bit like the first few seconds of this credit sequence vimeo.com/108962413)?

As to how flat the shapes should look, I was thinking maybe going down the low-poly path to mimic a sort of paper/origami aspect and give the darker silhouettes volume by letting them catch a certain amount of highlight...

And sure, I don’t think the wolf is going to get much screen time anyway so I’ll make sure not to spend too much time on it — also, what do you mean by 'mime show', if I may ask?

On a side note, if you feel this concept sounds a bit weak, I can always try to revert to one my other ideas. I sensed that you didn’t want me to develop the slime mould/scout/Wes Anderson concept but I get a feeling it would convey the content more efficaciously. However I am well aware this course is all about working your way around challenges. :)

  2. Hi J V-W - by 'mime show' I just meant 'no voice track' - so the action explaining itself without recourse to narration. I can see how this universe could really suit a classic 'storyteller' vibe you see - a dark book at bedtime - but I can likewise imagine a version that is non-narrated - just wanted to know your thoughts. Some beautiful thumbnails here - I find them much less 'fuzzy'! :)

    No - definitely - stick with this idea - I'm enticed! :)

Meanwhile... Can you complete the survey for me, pretty please - and let me know when you've done it - cheers!
